Monday, March 19
Yesterday, Sydney celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Harbor Bridge. There was a massive bridge walk, with the lanes closed to traffic to accommodate the 200K+ people that had signed up to walk. There were other festivities, including a low flyover by a Boeing 747.
Last night we went to a dinner party at our friends Maie and Kevin Barrow’s home. It’s always great to be invited, as Maie is an excellent cook, and she always has interesting new people to meet. It was a scrumptious dinner with great company and we didn’t get home until almost midnight!! Usually we go to sleep around 9:30, so it was a record for us.
Monday is the one day that the cycling club doesn’t have an organized ride, so we slept in and took a ride together – out to Botany Bay, near the airport and to Maroubra Beach before heading back through Randwick to the park and home. It was about 30 miles, but a fairly flat route – a few little hills, but nothing major. As nice as the park is, it’s good to have a change of scenery – I feel like I’m getting to know every bump in the pavement along the park’s bike path.
Since we were to o late to sign up for the bridge walk yesterday, we decided we’d walk across the bridge today. March 19th is the actual 75th anniversary. It’s a beautiful walk, and we did it during rush hour. It’s amazing how many people walk, ride bikes and jog to work over the bridge.
