Our friends, Maie and Kevin Barrow invited us to a book signing on Thursday (March 6) evening. The author is ½ Estonian, but her book is actually an Australian history book that tells the story of how Australia welcomed immigrants after World War II. A settlement camp was set up, where people were housed, fed, and taught the language and customs of their new country, and this story is the history of that camp. The celebration of the book launch was held in History House, a beautiful Sydney landmark building. Here’s a photo of one of the rooms where the reception was held. We had an enormous surprise waiting for us. About halfway through the reception, we were introduced to a gentleman who had been a young flight student during the war, and who knew Tom’s Dad quite well. It was such a thrill to meet him, and to hear the story of how he’d met and gotten to know Tom’s Dad.
