At the Los Angeles West Coast Estonian festival last summer, we met Ilmar Sein, another Estonian from Melbourne. He offered to take us on a great bike ride, so on Monday (Feb 25) we took him up on his offer. We took the train to the beaches that are south of the city, and had a sublime ride up the coastline, into the city, through many parks and sights and then back home again after about 25 miles. We took our time - something that is a little foreign for Tom - and it was just great. Melbourne is a fantastically bike-friendly city, with lots of wide cycle lanes and some of the most courteous motorists I've ever encountered. We all really enjoyed ourselves and didn't even get too sunburned!
This is a photo of an interesting bridge that is close to downtown Melbourne. It's for pedestrians and cyclists, so we wound our way through it.
Tom took this picture of a ferris wheel under construction. We think it may be something like the London Eye when it's completed. There's lots of new construction going on in Melbourne, and the city seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.
