While out riding near Doj’s neighborhood, we came across this gorgeous cul-de-sac of homes that have been designated as a retirement village. Being off the main road, it was very peaceful and the homes and gardens were meticulously kept up. This is just one example of the beautiful rose gardens that seemed to flourish in each yard.
Melbourne is flanked by the Yarra River, which provides many a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy the cityscape. There’s a great walking path along the river, with many restaurants, cafes and pubs along the way.
If you ever wondered what a real Aussie barbecue looks like, here’s a perfect example. We were invited to Doj’s good friends’ home for an evening meal. Terry and Sue live within walking distance of Doj’s house, and they are situated near a stream with lovely trees all around. From their back garden, you’d think you were out in the country listening to bird sounds and the rustling of wind through the branches. Sue cooked a delicious dinner while we watched the sunset. Afterwards, we were treated to visits by some possums (Australian possums are very cute – not like the ones we have in the U.S.) in the trees. Most amazingly, a huge owl swooped down and landed on the clothesline right above us. She sat there for about 2 minutes before flying away.
